This 20,000 square foot, two level home appears to sit askew on its compact rectilinear lot in Trousdale Estates. While the property has captivating views of Century City and downtown Los Angeles, capturing them requires a geometry that sits at angles to the lot’s property lines. The project’s dynamic composition is thus purposeful and intentional. In order to manage the restrictive 14-foot height envelope, we excavated the site a full level below the street and then designed the home as a two level structure within the resultant void.
This allows greenery and daylight to infiltrate the perimeter of the lower level. We have designed two iterations of this project for separate clients over a period of six years. The site remains unbuilt.
